Fit2Balance strives to change the paradigm of how trauma can determine the trajectory of one’s life. Barriers to health equity are often systemic in nature and rooted in trauma caused by intersecting systems of oppression. Navigating systems can be challenging for anyone, given how they are intertwined. Alison has been a witness first-hand, sitting at the table, while families navigate mental illness, child maltreatment, academic challenges, incarceration, homelessness, immigration issues, drug abuse, and domestic minor sex trafficking.
Systems impact systems, and it is a provider’s role to educate our families, our youth, and our staff on what trauma is, what it looks like, how to combat it, and what we do next. Systemic and generational trauma can be crippling to the growth of the youth we serve. Alison created Fit2Balance to supplement existing behavioral health programs.
